Longer half-life allows once-daily dosing.
Time-dependent antimicrobial efficacy:
SIMPLICEF™ (cefpodoxime proxetil) half-life ranges from 5-6 hours which allows once-daily dosing.1 Cephalosporins are time-dependent antimicrobials.
Cephalexin half-life ranges from 1-2 hours.2
Once-daily dosing allows sustained plasma concentrations.
After a single dose of either 5 mg/kg or 10 mg/kg, SIMPLICEF plasma concentrations remain above MIC target value for 24 hours.

The spectrum of SIMPLICEF™ (cefpodoxime proxetil) covers many important aerobic pathogens.

The clinical effectiveness of SIMPLICEF tablets against various infections was established in a multi-location field study.1

216 dogs with skin infections (wounds or abscesses) were treated with either SIMPLICEF (n=118) once-daily at 5 mg/kg (2.3 mg/lb) body weight or with a positive control antibiotic (n=98) administered twice-daily for 5-7 days. SIMPLICEF can be used up to 28 days.

SIMPLICEF tablets once daily were considered comparable (88.7% versus 88.4%) to the positive control twice daily in the treatment of canine skin infections caused by susceptible strains of Staphylococcus intermedius, Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus canis (group G, ß hemolytic), Escherichia coli, Pasteurella multocida and Proteus mirabilis.
